The Vogalonga

In May each year, the VOGALONGA brings together thousands of rowing enthusiasts in Venice. On board the most diverse of boats they row down the Canal Grande as far as the islands in a non-competitive regatta which each year attracts ever more participants.

On this day, the San Marco Basin and lagoon fill with a multitude of boats from the gondola to the pupparinosandolocaorlina and s’ciopon to name but a few, as well as prestigious racing boats.

This characteristic and picturesque regatta does not have historical origins, but was introduced to keep the ancient rowing traditions of Venice alive and to heighten people’s awareness of wash, a major problem for Venice.
